Our virtual lunch in Morogoro, Tanzania

This blog post was written by Megan Henderson, our Communications & Events Manager.

On 1 May 2024 we hosted a virtual lunch in Tanzania with our partners in Morogoro. We were joined by Lugenge, the Morogoro Programme Coordinator, and Kalu, a programme trainer.

The programme in Morogoro started in 2017, but has grown from one office in Morogoro town to four satellite offices which trainers supporting members in a Morogoro diocese which is larger than Scotland.

Recently, the programme pushed to reach even more people. During the event Lugenge said, “The programme is focusing now on youth and an increasing number of women - we have 74% of women engaging in the programme but we want to reach even more… There is a lot of unemployed youth - they think they have nothing, but we want to teach them what they do have instead of thinking they have nothing to contribute to the community and society.”

The team are seeing powerful shifts in savings culture and youth engagements which is creating promising futures for the communities in Morogoro.

During the event Kalu said, “There are a number of things that I as a trainer in the programme are proud of. Some of them are seeing the total transformation of people that I work with in the Groups - that what I train has been put into practice.”
